The Year of Evan Envi

Don’t know who Evan Envi is? Don’t worry. You will.

And you can take my word for it because I’m a respected broadcaster and wrestling expert. OR you can just look at the facts.

The Evan Envi you know today really started making a major impact in the wrestling world in 2010 while wrestling under his real name, Evan Harrison, for American Championship Wrestling where he became a two time United States Champion and the second longest reigning, and last ever, Specialist Champion. Evan would have two long tours with the company before ACW closed its doors in the fall of 2011. He then did a short an uneventful stint in SCW before landing in the company that has truly granted him Megastar Status, Action Packed Wrestling.

In APW, Evan quickly ascended to the top of the roster for APW’s Monday Night Meltdown, and, even though his attitude made him a heel to the fans, he became the face of the brand by becoming the first ever APW North American Champion. After being drafted to APW’s Overdrive brand, Evan found himself quickly adding more gold to his collection, almost immediately becoming the APW Xtreme Champion. Evan recently lost the Xtreme Championship in a triple threat match at APW’s One Night In Hell PPV, but that hasn’t stopped the hottest rising star in APW today. He’s already gone on to form a tag team with “The Boss” Delikado to form the successful team of Envikado, and they are on the fast track to some tag team gold.

Of course, outside of APW, Evan has had some of his arguably most impressive accomplishments. In this year’s True Expert Tournament, Evan advanced all the way to the quarter finals. He was undefeated in group play where he amassed victories over former APW World Champion, Jason Kash, VWF World Champion Maverick Jones, and New Era World Champion, James Stall. And who did he finally lose to? He lost a triple threat match to wrestling legend Kurt Noble in a match also involving another tournament favorite, Drake Mosa. Oh, and it was a street fight in Siberia. Not a bad way to go.

After that Evan became the partner of former SCW owner M.D.K to defend the True Experts Tag Team Championships. You don’t tag with a man like M.D.K unless he sees huge potential in you. He’s also begun a heavily talked about feud with Code Red Wrestling’s Buck Dempsey. And now he’s going to be one of the major stars involved with Visionary Wrestling Incorporated Showcase Zero. He’ll be representing APW in a Six Pack Challenge for sixty thousand dollars, and, given his skills, I have to pick him as an early favorite to win.

In fact, the only thing Evan Envi hasn’t done yet is win a World title of his own. How he hasn’t managed to do so yet is almost unfathomable. Backstage politics? Bad booking perhaps? Who knows? Maybe if Evan had been given more than one chance to compete for their World title, ACW’s doors would still be open, and I’m sure the only reason Evan hasn’t reached the pinnacle in APW is because they’ve already got a massive deck of stacked talent. But all that is going to change. In fact, I’m going to come right out and say it. This will be the year Evan Envi finally wins the big one.

How do I know this? I’ve been in the wrestling business for well over twenty years, and I can tell the superstars from the perpetual midcarders. I know the difference between the ones who will only ever hold second tier titles and the future World Champion. Evan was born to wear a big gold belt.

He’s got it all, the looks that make him marketable, and the skills to get the job done. His mic work will put butts in the seats, and his in ring ability will win him championships. Just look at all he’s accomplished already. There’s a reason there’s been so much talk about him, and it’s because he’s been dancing on the edge of greatness, and this is the year he finally attains it.

Even his attitude is great. Sure, a lot of people don’t like it. I’ve known plenty of people who will tell you that Evan Envi is “arrogant”, “disrespectful” and a “complete and total douchebag”. But Evan’s attitude is one of his strongest points. It tells me he’s tired of settling and he’s going to go out and get what he wants. And what he wants has never been closer to his grasp.

Let’s look at Showcase Zero and the Six Pack Challenge. This could quite frankly be the biggest and most important match of his career. If Evan can find a way to defeat five representatives from five other major wrestling companies, not only will it put him in great standing with APW, but it will do wonders for his name all around the world. And what does having a big name mean? It means people are going to want to book you. I’d wager that if Evan Envi wins the Six Pack he could go to any one of those feds and be their World Champion by the end of 2013.

And it helps that Evan is currently receiving training from none other than Gryphon and Sabra Nikolayev. When you’re getting All Star training like that it ensures that you’re going to be able to compete against the best in the world.

In fact, I think the only thing holding Evan Envi back is his current APW tag team partner, Delikado. Envikado is certainly a dangerous duo, and, if Evan wants to make a fast grab for some tag gold, Delikado is the man to do it. But, if this tag team lasts more than six months, he’s doing something very wrong. There are people who really excel at tag team wrestling, and I’m not trying to take anything away from them, but Evan Envi was meant to be a singles star. And if he ever wants to give the likes of Terry Marvin or Sally Talfourd a run for their money he better ditch the Boss.

2013 will be the year of Evan Envi, and it’s all going to start with a strong showing to close out this year. If Evan can win the Six Pack Challenge it will put everyone in APW and the whole wrestling world on notice, and, when he finally wins the big one, I’ll be here to let you all know that I told you so.

Jealous yet? You will be.
